Spring has Sprung, have you?

Engage Your Senses this Spring

For someone like myself who recently moved down from the Northeast coming to South Florida, you are really coming for the weather.  The ability to enjoy the outdoors more. Let’s face it – you have the same number of hours in the day, you work hard just like you do wherever you are but at some point you pause and realize that you see more sky, you feel more warmth and fresh air, there is more color – there is an energy within you that you don’t even realize is there but it springs forth.  So as much as you have the external factors that you visually see, there is a feeling that β€œinfects” your wellbeing, your joy, your spirit.

You can β€œfeel” spring.  Let the colors emerge and the feeling of that extra energy and life come forth. Smell spring – breathe in that fresh air or get some essential oils that can help stimulate your senses, e.g., lemon or tea tree oil.  It rejuvenates and energizes you from the outside in.

But we too can take this time to do the same but from the inside out. We can do so by changing up our foods and meals. Keep it light, tasty and nutritious and always – fun. Eat the colors of spring. Liven up your salads with fresh fruits, e.g., mango, strawberries, mint and make some extraordinary salsas to spice up your regular foods. Oven roast or grill veggies that you would normally just steam or boil. They taste a whole lot better and you get more nutrition with this type of preparation. Try some new spices to awaken your palette and make your soul sing – all while keeping you healthy and in tune with this awakening of your senses.

You can also β€œdo spring”. Fresh fruits, salads, and refreshing beverages, more outdoor eating, and activities with the family.  Putting on your sneakers and going for a walk on the boardwalk or while your children ride their bikes – like I do with my 5-year-old is enough to keep you working towards your health and wellness goals without even trying.

So spring has sprung, enjoy what this season brings! There are lots of ways to embrace it and experience it. So remember – freshen up your food, your activity, your time with your family, your life. Reach out to that β€œnewness” of another season of rejuvenation and slide down that rainbow of life. Wheeeeeeee!
